Is America Still Really Beautiful?

We all learned the song, "America, America, God shed His grace on thee. And crown thy good, with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea." We learned this song when we were kids in school and we sang it out with patriotism and pride in our hearts. But...is America really still beautiful? What really made it beautiful anyway? Was it the land? Was it the sea to shining sea? The purple mountain majesties?


Even though we are thankful for the beautiful land that we all share, we know that this is not what made America beautiful. We could have the most majestic purple mountains, the most amber waves of grain and still be a people full of crime, degradation, sin, a society intent on violence and a people who do not care at all for the brotherhood of man.


OK, so this is the ugly side of America. It's a product of men's hardened hearts, full of sin and disregard towards his neighbor. It is those who have turned their hearts away from the One who created this land and who created man and placed in him a free will to choose. However, the Bible declares: "But where sin abounded, grace does much more abound." Romans 5:20


"America, America, God shed His grace on thee." Now, more than ever before mankind is in dire need of God's grace to be shed on the hearts of men. More than ever before, we need to bow our hearts and our wills in humble prayer before the Almighty One, the One who has created this land for us to dwell in and has created us so that He might dwell in us through His love in His Son, Jesus Christ. We need to humble ourselves, repent from our wicked ways and the Word of God says, "then He will heal our land."


America can still be beautiful. But only if man bows his knee before the living God. Then..."He will make everything beautiful, in His time." Ecclesiastes 3:11
